The AJEX Charitable Foundation is the only Jewish organization catering for the needs of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women and their dependants. AJEX House specifically provides sheltered accommodation in self-contained flats. Cash grants are given to help with extra expenses at Passover, New Year and Chanukah. Emergency or special grants are provided to those requiring health care or mobility aids or help with household furnishings or repairs. The number of serious cases increases each year, as veterans of the Second World War get older and ex-National Service personnel fall into a similar bracket.

The Brighton & Hove Jewish Welfare Board provides vital funding for needy local Jewish people. Regular grants fund day-to-day requirements and one-off special assistance is also available. Members of the Board maintain contact with recipients to ensure their continuing well-being and older clients can attend the Board-assisted Day Centre at Ralli Hall two days a week and enjoy a kosher luncheon and various activities. A TV set and licence are supplied free of charge where necessary, Carelink may also be provided. Younger persons and families in financial need are also assisted; the Board supports the local Jewish day nursery and has established an Educational Fund to help Sussex Jewish youth access Higher Education. Passover parcels are delivered to all clients.

Founded in the early 1970s, NSWaS is the only intentional, democratically-run Jewish-Arab community in Israel, with a bilingual, bicultural Kindergarten and Primary School, which is also open to children from outside the Village. Shuvu is an educational and welfare network spanning 68 schools and kindergartens in Israel. The network’s priority is to connect Jewish students and their families with their roots by giving them a sense of pride in their Jewish heritage. It was initially set up to help during mass immigration from Russia but now educates some 15,000 children and teenagers, many of whom are from secular, native Israeli families. Shuvu has been phenomenally successful, pioneering an education and outreach revolution by providing students with an excellent, high-level, secular and Jewish education.

The Israel Free Loan Association (IFLA) is an Israeli non-profit organization established in 1990, that has provided over 40,000 interest-free loans to needy families for housing, small businesses, education, food, rent, medical expenses and war victims. IFLA has provided £68 million in loans since 1990. Repayments are constantly recycled into new loans. Overheads are less than 5% and defaults are under 1%. Created in 1991, the Israel Guide Dog Centre for the Blind was established to train and supply guide dogs to an increasing number of blind Israelis who were unable to obtain a dog from an English-speaking centre abroad. Hundreds of partnerships have now been created at our centre that is located not far from Rishon L'Zion at Beit Oved. Each partnership costs some £15,000 for the life long care of the guide dog, training and aftercare. A legacy or gift will help provide another pair of eyes to the growing number of blind persons who 'look' to us to help restore their independence and dignity.

RAMBAM MEDICAL CENTRE in Haifa aspires to lead in all aspects of medical care on behalf of the two million population living in Northern Israel. Paediatrics is a speciality as is research to increase knowledge of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of childhood diseases.

An underground emergency hospital is under construction in case of terrorist attack. Respirators, trauma equipment etc. are required. The hospital is just by the port area in Haifa and next to chemical factories, a focus of enemy attack in times of war.

Tikva's core mission is to care for the homeless, abandoned and abused Jewish children of Odessa, Ukraine. Tikva provides them with a loving home, essential social services, a first-rate education in the environs of a revitalised Jewish community, and an opportunity for a brighter future through immigration to Israel.

What started as a small community outreach programme has improved the lives of more than 3,000 men, women, and children through programmes including: The Tikva Boys' and Girls' Homes, caring for almost 175 children aged 4 to 16; an Infants' Home for over 35 infants and toddlers; a Day Care Centre serving 125 children; co-ed elementary and pre-schools and boys' and girls' high schools, serving over 850 Jewish children from Tikva's homes and the Odessa region, together with a wide range of other educational and cultural initiatives.

Camp Simcha was founded in the UK and became a Registered Charity in February 1995. Camp Simcha aims to improve the quality of life for children and teenagers with cancer and other life threatening illnesses, as well as their families. With this goal, Camp Simcha provides emotional and practical support, a parent and siblings support network, homebound educational learning programmes, international resources, parties, outings, medically equipped summer camp in the USA and a midweek retreat for the whole family. Camp Simcha consists of a team of trained staff and volunteers dedicated to giving their time to help children with cancer and other life threatening illnesses, both during and after treatment. Camp Simcha is funded entirely from voluntary donations. In 2005 Neville Goldschneider was appointed as the first professional director of the charity.

Chai Cancer Care is the Jewish community’s cancer support organization, providing a range of services including counselling, therapies, complementary therapies, helpline, a comprehensive programme of social and physical activities, advocacy and advice as well as expert lectures.

Services are available to patients, their family and friends. Based at its Centre in Hendon, services are also available in the Redbridge Jewish Community Centre, South London (Nightingale), Greater Manchester (Heathlands Village) and in people’s homes. Chai’s specialist professional staff is augmented by a team of trained volunteers.

Chai Cancer Care is an independent organization serving the entire Jewish community and is reliant on voluntary contributions.

Our services include drop-in groups, drama and art therapy, family support, befriending, organising carers, hospital visits, educational seminars, advocacy and public events - where speakers offer their views on aspects of mental health. As the only mental health organization that specialises in providing a religiously and culturally sensitive environment for its Orthodox Jewish users, Chizuk's function is also educational, in that it helps to combat stigma by changing the way that mental health is viewed in the community.

CLICK is a non-for-profit organization in Israel that strives to improve the quality of life for the aged through vocational, educational, social and cultural services. We aspire to become self-sustainable in order to secure the future of our innovative projects that target disabled and aged populations. Our vision is that the aged in our community will enjoy a better quality of life as a result of their participation in a diverse range of activities at our five community social centres for the independent elderly; our day care centre for incapacitated elderly; an occupational therapy programme for the housebound elderly; a handicraft manufacturing factory employing elders and those with special needs; community programmes for holocaust survivors, and intergenerational projects with schools. Winner of the National Charity Awards 2001 for Management Excellence, Cosgrove Care was founded in 1963 to help adults with learning difficulties in the Jewish community in Scotland. Cosgrove has grown considerably since then and now supports upwards of 120 individuals of all ages and their families in a range of programmes such as residential and supported living services, outreach and respite services and supported employment. During 2008 Cosgrove's Child Services Department attained Autism Accreditation for its excellence in delivery of services to children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Cosgrove relies on voluntary contributions in addition to its public sector contracts in order to provide its service users with the best possible personalised services to enable them to enhance their lives, achieve their potential and experience what most of us take for granted.
