In the years following its inception, JNF UK was chiefly committed to laying the foundation stones for a functioning state; purchasing land, draining swamps, and perhaps most famously of all – planting trees.
However, the reality is that for all the incredible progress Israel has made since 1948, there are still big social and economic issues that need tackling. JNF UK’s vision is that every Israeli, no matter who they are or where they have come from, should have the opportunity not just to survive, but to thrive. As the UK’s oldest Israel-supporting charity, currently celebrating 120 years, we are proud to be the first on the frontline when our Jewish homeland is in need. Every day we hear directly from our colleagues in Israel about the impact your donations are making as well as the difficulties that remain. We focus on projects in the Negev and Galilee – on impoverished areas lacking infrastructure and community cohesion – we are making real and long-lasting differences through holistic engagement, building relationships and transforming lives to create a sustainable future.

Our aims are to relieve poverty; expand education and training; create empowering youth projects; promote arts, culture and heritage, and encourage environmental sustainability.
During the pandemic in 2020, the impact of our work was officially recognised by the Israeli President, Reuven Rivlin.
Volunteers have played an integral role in building Israel’s future and are the key to the success of JNF UK’s work and the future of the Jewish state. From education to employment, from health to welfare, from infrastructure improvement to environmental sustainability, from tree planting and urban forestation to producing clean energy. So many projects, in so many different areas, are making such a huge impact.
JNF UK is supporting a truly breathtaking array of different projects – but what binds them all together is David Ben Gurion’s ideology that “It’s not enough to be up to date, you have to be up to tomorrow”.
